An IP address is a unique address that identifies a device on the internet or a local network. IP stands for "Internet Protocol," which is the set of rules governing the format of data sent via the internet or local network.

The Internet Protocol is a set of rules for communication over the internet, such as sending mail, streaming video, or connecting to a website. An IP address identifies a network or device on the internet.

And in this course, you're going to learn the ins and outs of both IP version four and IP version six addresses.

Specifically, you'll learn how IP addresses are structured, the different categories of addresses, how addresses get assigned, and how an easy to remember name can be translated into an often harder to remember IP address.

And also, since this is a introductory course, we're going to take non-mathematical approach. Instead, I want you to get a solid conceptual understanding of IP addresses.
